Easily Confused

interject vs interrupt — Both involve breaking into a conversation, but interject is gentler: you add a remark without necessarily stopping the speaker, and the original conversation can continue. Interrupt is more disruptive: you stop the speaker from continuing. You can politely interject «if I may»; interrupting is usually impolite.
