=plebeian
From Latin plēbs ('the common people') + -ian (relating to). Note: pleb- is NOT the ple 'fill' root — plēbs is a separate Latin word for the ordinary masses (opposed to the patricians, the noble class). In ancient Rome a plebeian was a commoner; the modern adjective means unrefined or vulgar.
