源自希腊语 oikos（家）+ nomos（管理）：oikonomia 字面就是「家政管理」——持家、管伙食、分配事务。后来范围从一户人家扩大到整个国家的资源，「家政管理」就成了「经济」。最初的节俭义保留在第二个含义里：economy 也指任何精打细算的节省。
