词根派生en-/in-（向内）+ quire（quaer 词根，寻求）= “往里寻”一件事。enquire 与 inquire 是同一个词；英式英语倾向用 enquire 表日常询问、用 inquire 表正式调查，但两种拼写大量重叠。

- enquire 与 inquire：大体可互换。英式英语倾向用 enquire 表一般询问（enquire about prices）、用 inquire 表正式探究；美式英语两种场合都偏用 inquire。

注意拼写：这里是 en-，不是 in-。
