ordnance 是 ordinance 的缩略变体，二者都来自 ordinare（安排、整治）。ordinance 最初指"被安排、被备好的东西"，其中包括备好的军用装备。这个军事义后来独立出来，掉了一个音节，固化成 ordnance = 火炮军械。
