sembl（相像，来自 similis）+ -ance =「相像」。但 semblance 漂向了可疑的一端：a semblance of order 是秩序的样子，未必是真有秩序。

为什么是这个意思

semblance 是带着「可能作假」暗示的「相像」。它几乎总出现在 a semblance of X 或 some semblance of X 中，描述一种内里可能空洞的表象——a semblance of calm（镇定的表象）、a semblance of normality（正常的表象）。相像是真的；里子是否也真，则留作悬念。
