sense 直接来自拉丁语 sentīre「感觉、感知」（其 sens- 词干）。所有现代含义都从这一个「感受」的动作辐射出来：五种感官是身体感知世界的器官；a sense of danger 是「感到」不对劲；the sense of a word 是大脑从词中「感知」到的意义；common sense 则是能清楚感知现实的头脑所具备的判断力。to sense something 就是在能证明之前先「感觉到」它。
